To create this SVG-format logo, I took the EPS file at Brandsoftheworld.com, ran it through pstoedit, and then did the following modifications using Inkscape and Notepad: fixed priority (center of "O" in "Exxon"), centered on a correctly sized grid, and made markup simpler and more readable. Used in Exxon.

  1. It serves to identify the company. Because this is the official corporate logo, no free image would be a suitable replacement for this purpose.
  2. Given the context, there is no realistic possibility that a Oilfield Wiki page would be mistaken for an official Exxon website because of the presence of the logo.
  3. Within articles, it is rendered at Web resolution.
  4. It does not infringe upon the original trademark holder's ability to use and profit from the mark.
