FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 26, 2013

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Already recognized as one of the safest companies on the West Coast, Greenberry Industrial has caught the eye of the national construction industry after it was honored as one of the safest companies in the United States by the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC).

The AGC’s 2013 Construction Safety Excellence Awards winners were announced during the organization’s Annual Convention earlier this month. Award winners were selected by a national panel of construction safety professionals from the public, private and not-for-profit sectors, including the Department of Defense and the Army Corps of Engineers.

Greenberry Industrial captured top honors in the Building Division, 850,000 to 1.25 million labor hours category.

“Achieving national recognition through such a prestigious honor is a testament to our company’s culture that safety is always at the top of the checklist,” said Greenberry Industrial President & CEO Jason Pond. “There is nothing more important than making sure our employees get home to their families each night. That’s what drives me personally and our company as a whole. We are honored to be recognized by the AGC of America for our efforts.”

Safety first From implementing a pre-work stretching routine to reviewing the tight quarters of a work environment, Greenberry goes the extra mile to make sure its employees are thinking safety first. This dedication to its workers’ well-being is the main reason the company recently surpassed a major industry milestone: four million straight work hours during an eight-plus-year span without an on-the-job, lost-time accident.

Ranked No. 226 in the ENR Top 600 Specialty Contractors for 2012, the company achieved its safety streak by completing several high-profile projects over the years that demanded innovative safety solutions, such as:

Mt. Poso Cogeneration: A coal-to-biomass power plant conversion in California that won ENR’s Top Industrial/Manufacturing Project in the state for 2012 Superior Energy: An Arctic containment system built in Bellingham, Wash., that comprised more than 500,000 labor hours Cosmo Specialty Fibers: A total mill refurbishment in Washington that logged 182,000 labor hours and won a safety award from the Northwest Construction Consumer Council Proactive prevention

By regularly monitoring field trends and patterns, the company has employed several measures to reduce potential problems and keep its safety record intact. For example, when management noticed a growing number of its workers experiencing back injuries, it implemented a morning stretching routine into the daily schedule, and has not experienced one back-related accident since the program started.

Greenberry Industrial also rolled out its SAFESTART internal training program, in which all of its employees, from Pond to the on-site workers, complete safety training classes.

Greenberry’s commitment to safety has helped the company grow to be one of the top industrial fabricators in the West. The company ranked No. 30 on the Portland Business Journal’s list of the fastest-growing private 100 companies, with 138 percent revenue growth between 2009 and 2011. In addition, Greenberry ranked in the top 10 for total number of employees and total revenue.

As another sign of its rapid growth, the company went from three million work hours without a lost-time accident to four million hours in less than one year. The jump from two million hours to three million hours took nearly two years from March 2010 to January 2012.
