HJ3® Receives PEMEX Approval
November 30, 2012 Tucson, Arizona FOR IMMEDIATE MEDIA RELEASE: HJ3’s CarbonSeal™ Industrial Composite Systems have been qualified and approved by PEMEX of Mexico for the repair and strengthening of its low risk and high risk corroded or damaged steel pipes. The approval covers pipelines throughout the oil and gas production process areas, including all on-shore, off-shore, exploration, refining, transmission, and distribution pipelines. “This is a significant milestone for HJ3,” states Jim Butler, HJ3’s president and co-founder. “We have successfully completed more than 10,000 applications worldwide on civil and industrial steel and concrete infrastructure. This qualification opens the door to the Latin American petrochemical and gas market, where our carbon fiber products are the strongest per-ply available, and can help save companies like PEMEX considerable money compared to alternative repairs or replacement.” The qualifying process was conducted by Instituto Mexicano Del Petroleo (IMP), involving a series of individual strength and durability tests per ASME PCC-2 Article 4.1 APPENDIX III ISO/TS-24817 Standards for the Repair of Pressure Equipment and Piping. Part of the test protocol included a burst test to determine the ability of the CarbonSeal system to withstand internal pressures over 5,000 psi when wrapped over defects to include 80-90% steel wall loss. 2012 has been a momentous year for HJ3 Composite Technologies, who recently celebrated its 10-year anniversary. HJ3 was also awarded the Arizona Commerce Authority’s Arizona Innovation Challenge Grant for the second consecutive year, competing among over 400 companies, and was awarded “Technology Company of the Year” by the Minority and Small Business Alliance of Southern Arizona. With more than 25 years of large-scale testing, including 20,000 hours of product durability testing, HJ3 supports Fortune 500 companies such as Exxon Mobile, Shell Oil, British Petroleum, and now PEMEX with the strongest materials per-ply, stamped engineering and on-site quality control. Petróleos Mexicanos, otherwise known as PEMEX, is the largest company of Mexico and Latin America, and Mexico’s most important fiscal contributor to the sustainable development of the country. PEMEX is one of few oil companies in the world that manages all areas of petroleum production; from oil and gas exploration, to refining, to transmission and distribution of each refined product.
