Press Release

Sarens will bring its SGC-120 into action to construct a drilling platform in Nantong, China Wolvertem (BE) - Worldwide heavy lifting and special transport specialist Sarens announces its cooperation in the Cheviot Octabouy project. At the Cosco Shipyard in Nantong (Qidong, China) a new drilling platform will be built. Sarens’ expertise will be used to lift several modules for the construction of the top-side drilling platform with a total weight of 15.000t. The heaviest module will weigh 1.300t. The SGC-120 will be transported directly to China, after finishing a job in Arizona, USA.

On site the crane will be assembled and moved with SPMT’s (Self-Propelled Modular Trailers) to her lifting position. “Thus the SGC-120 facilitates the total duration of the project as the crane will not obstruct the other on-site works,” explains Technical Solution Manager Steven Sarens. The assembly of the crane will start in August 2012. The lifting is scheduled for October 2012 and will last several months.

About the SGC-120

The SGC‐120 is a third generation crane with 120.000 Tm capacity (3.200 metric ton lifting capacity). It is designed to accommodate the heavy lifting requirements for refinery, oil and gas, mining, offshore platform and third generation components for nuclear power plants. The SGC-120 meets all US and European Lift Crane Standards and is CE certified. Its features include:

- Reliable heavy lifting machine with high load moments
- Limited footprint and low ground bearing pressures have minimal impact on other site works. No foundations are needed due to the compact and stable ring design
- Counterweights of 3.600 metric tons (36 containers of 40 feet) of locally‐sourced material which greatly reduces shipping costs
- On site flexibility: reliable and easily operated hydraulic winches provide excellent and efficient load raising and lowering
- Flexible worldwide transportation in cost‐effective standard shipping containers (approximately 155 containers)
- Versatile lifting machine powered by 12 diesel engines
