Under direct supervision, demonstrates creativity and judgment in solving basic problems during the development and application of new and improved chemical products and engineering processes. Performs basic research and experimentation under direct guidance of technical leaders and advisors. Performs routine duties to conduct laboratory tests following standard procedures, including the selection of test equipment and instrumentation. Assists with test data analysis and documents progress in laboratory notebooks and project reports. Assists with maintenance of files and documentation related to chemicals, test procedures and laboratory equipment. Responsibilities may include building and/or modifying non-routine prototypes, models, and special equipment and performance of tests/experiments as required. Acquires basic knowledge of the products, processes, and their application. Learns project management skills by participating in the performance of project activities under direct guidance of project leaders. Demonstrates creativity and innovation by contributing ideas or new designs/techniques which accomplish project goals. Incorporates HSE awareness, regulations, best practices, product/process reliability and quality into the development of products and processes. May participate in professional societies. Job tasks, correctly performed, impact indirectly on cost containment, efficiency, profitability or operations. Skills are typically acquired through the completion of an undergraduate degree in Engineering or Chemical Technology or similar discipline or through 4 years of directly related work experience
