Overview / Responsibilities

Amec Foster Wheeler Environment & Infrastructure has an opportunity for a Mid-Level Environmental Biologist or Scientist to fill an on-call position with our natural resource team located in our Portland, OR office.  The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of consulting experience and be comfortable preparing technical analyses of documents compliant with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA); performing wetland and habitat surveys; completing Clean Water Act (CWA) Section 404 / Rivers and Harbors Act Section 10 permitting; preparing Biological Assessments;’ preparing and adhering to scopes, schedules, and budgets under the supervision of a project manager; and communicating with team members. This position will work closely to support the environmental planning and permitting team in Portland while collaborating on projects and with technical staff throughout the West.

 

Key Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities will include preparing analyses of environmental issues in the context of NEPA compliance and CWA Section 404 and 401 compliance. The position will also include some assistance with proposal preparation. Opportunities for advancement are open for highly motivated and capable candidates. Participation in professional organizations and pursuit of job-related trainings is encouraged.

The position is approximately 80% office work and 20% fieldwork on a variety of projects, including commercial, industrial, state, and federal sites Biology field activities may include plant and wildlife identification, threatened and endangered species surveys, wetland surveys, native plant surveys, etc. Will utilize GPS, compass, quad maps and / or aerial photographs Office work involves researching literature and regulatory requirements, preparing reports, maps and charts, and performing routine calculations Interprets data. With experience, may write complete reports Preparation of field reports, internal correspondence, sections of formal reports Compliance with company safety standards and site safety standards in accordance with Amec Foster Wheeler policy Travel to project sites throughout Oregon and the western US - Between 25% and 50% overnight travel Skills / Qualifications

Required

BS or MS in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science or related scientific discipline or technical field 5+ years of related experience Must be a self-starter with excellent written and verbal communication skills Western US fauna and / or flora knowledge and experience is required Skilled at basic or standard field procedures and techniques Strong technical writing, research, and analytical abilities as well as excellent oral communication skills and high attention to details CWA Section 404 delineating / permitting experience Demonstrated experience working successfully in a team environment Willingness to travel Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving policy Preferred

GIS and or AutoCAD experience Proficiency with Arc GIS and spatial analysis tools a plus Interest in marketing, proposals, and business development Physical Demands

Field activities may require working in unfavorable weather conditions Ability to hike, lift equipment and willingness to work extended hours (10+ hour days), as needed Diversity Statement
