SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

 

The Crane and Heavy Equipment Specialist shall ensure the readiness, safety and compliance of all Company lifting equipment and similar appliances. The Crane and Heavy Equipment Specialist's principal responsibility is to evaluate, implement, monitor and audit the preventative and recertification maintenance of the Company's lifting equipment and similar appliances (landside and shipboard cranes and, lifting appliances, including winches, tuggers and other similar equipment such as forklifts and man lifts) in accordance with all required regulations, best industry practices and Company policy requirements.  Responsibilities will also generally include, cost planning and tracking related to fleet operating expense planning for crane maintenance and recertification

 

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP

 

The Crane and Heavy Equipment Specialist reports directly to the Director of Maintenance.  The Crane and Heavy Equipment Specialist has no direct reports but shall work closely with the Company's Operations Managers and Port Engineers, fleet leadership and the engineering department as it relates to crane and lifting equipment operations. 

                                                                                               

AUTHORITY

 

Authority of the Crane and Heavy Equipment Specialist shall be as directed by the Director of Maintenance, and according to Company policies.  Executive and monetary approval authority shall be per Company policies and as otherwise authorized on a project bases.                                                                                                                                                            

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

To maintain the operation, modification and maintenance of cranes and hydraulic equipment related with the Company's offshore assets/vessels:

 

Provide recommendations for operations and maintenance issues related to cranes, and assimilation of those recommendations into operating and maintenance programs such as lifting procedures and the Company's CMS (NS5). Provide "call center" real time technical support and information on issues primarily related to operations and technical matters by diagnosing and supporting the elimination of faults. Preparation of costings and scheduling for crane system maintenance routines Review any proposal for modifications to crane and hydraulic equipment and systems including the management or supervision of vendors to coordinate, oversee, manage and supervise vendor work scope and modifications. Must be able to manage broader projects involving conversions or modifications involving specifications, drawings, plans, sketches and other information pertaining to construction and commissioning of company cranes that are fully compliant with company specifications, regulatory bodies, etc.  As a Project Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for integration of this technical documentation, distribution of knowledge, training of personnel, and interface management.  In this project management role, this position will be responsible for the integration of this technical documentation, distribution of knowledge, training of personnel, and interface management.  Preparation hydraulic, mechanical and electrical operation, maintenance and safety specifications associated with cranes and hydraulic systems as required in accordance with relevant legislation and industry guidance. The recommendation and management of onboard and depot level spares to endeavor that adequate spares are available for hydraulic, mechanical and electrical systems associated with cranes Undertake regular audits of cranes and heavy lifting equipment, documentation, spares and maintenance regimes Conduct regular periodic crane safety maintenance inspection and operation training Support vessel Chief Engineers and Crane/Hydraulic Technicians with specialist technical advice on all aspects of cranes/hydraulic equipment  

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE      

                                                         

Education:       At least a Bachelor Degree in Civil/Structural/Mechanical Engineering (or other engineering discipline) with a solid background in crane and lifting equipment inspection; or a combination of high school and technical trade school majoring in mechanical equipment and/or cranes and conversant with one or more of the major offshore design codes (API, AISC, DnV, NORSOK, EuroCode 3)

 

Experience:     Minimum five years of experience for onshore marine operations or offshore oil field operation, particularly in crane inspection / re-certification.  Experience in the installation and commissioning of Subsea cranes.  Familiar with crane and lifting inspection, relevant standard, rules and specifications (government regulation and international standards/codes). Good communication skills- written, verbal and listening. Negotiating skills. Computer literate/knowledge of Microsoft Office software. Management skills. Detailed product knowledge of cranes and related components. Familiarity with oil and gas drilling and production platforms and structures. Minimum of five years technical experience.  Excellent command of the English language and advanced computer skills.  Experience with NS-5 vessel maintenance system is preferred.

 

HOURS OF WORK             

                                                                         

Hours of work shall be as required to fulfill the responsibilities of the job description.  Extended work hours will from time to time be required, including but not limited to sailing or other extensive travel should operational matters so warrant.                                 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

Eyesight:  When acting in capacity as a vessel watch stander, incumbent must have vision that allows permits safe operation of a vessel in situations that are likely to occur when a boat is in navigation night and day, year round.  Color vision that enables them to identify navigation lights, signals, and symbols, as well as warning lights or symbols, is required, as is depth perception, which must be adequate for navigation in close quarters, including lock, bridge and dock approaches.         

Hearing:  Incumbent must have hearing that permits communication effectively in the conditions that might be encountered aboard a vessel. 

Mobility:  Incumbent must be capable of ascending/descending stairs or ladders safely and of performing emergency duties as listed in a typical vessel Station Bill.  Incumbent may be required to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds, or more with assistance.
