Geotechnical Engineer

Overview / Responsibilities

Amec Foster Wheeler Environment & Infrastructure is currently seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join our team in Birmingham Alabama. Candidate will be exposed to a range of projects related to energy, transportation, industrial/commercial, and government sectors.  The successful candidate should be flexible in assignments, willing to travel periodically, and eager to learn.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with project scoping, budget estimates, and proposal writing Coordinate and perform field explorations, including supervision of subcontractors or other Amec Foster Wheeler personnel Perform construction monitoring/inspection of shallow and deep foundations Interpret field and laboratory data Perform engineering calculations/analyses for shallow and deep foundations, settlement, soil and rock slope stability, retaining walls, ground improvement, etc. Review calculations/analyses of engineers Develop recommendations and draft engineering reports Follow company and client safety standards Skills / Qualifications

Minimum of Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET Accredited College / University plus a Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering or equivalent additional course work and experience 3 to 8 years of related experience P.E. license preferred Must have strong oral / written communication skills and ability to work well in teams Proficiency with relevant software (e.g., AutoCAD, MathCAD, ArcGIS, Microsoft Office, SEEP/W, SLOPE/W, Slide, Settle3D) Flexibility to work outside normal business hours as required Flexibility to travel for short durations (typically one week or less) Valid Driver's License Able to lift up to 50 pounds and traverse over rugged terrain Pass drug test and background check, and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy Diversity Statement
